  • Design, develop, and implement advanced stock assessment models tailored to specific fisheries
  • Provide science-based management advice
  • Extensive experience across a variety of species and fisheries
  • Conduct independent reviews of stock assessments

Statistical Analysis & Problem Solving

  • Apply advanced, bottom-up statistical methodologies to solve complex, niche problems in fisheries science.
  • Use multivariate statistical techniques and machine learning tools to address highly dimensional and interrelated datasets.
  • Deliver innovative, multidisciplinary solutions to challenges across biological, ecological, economic, and regulatory domains.

Survey Design & Observer Sampling

  • Review and evaluate fisheries observer sampling frameworks to ensure statistical validity, representativity, and minimal bias.
  • Ensure that sampling strategies are appropriate for reliable stock assessments, compliance monitoring, and management decision-making.
  • Experience includes assessing national programmes such as South Africa’s SADSTIA observer programme, and international sampling approaches.

Bioeconomic Analysis

  • Integrate biological, ecological, and economic factors into decision-making frameworks.
  • Conduct cost-benefit and scenario analyses to evaluate fishery performance and sustainability.
  • Support policy development with evidence-based bioeconomic modelling.

Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) Certification Support

  • Provide high-level technical expertise for fisheries undergoing MSC certification.
  • Conduct detailed bycatch and ecosystem impact assessments to guide mitigation and sustainability improvements.
  • Develop and support management strategies for Principle 2 components, ensuring ecosystem-based management alignment.
